ART IMITATES LIFE

I went to see a movie.
You know that movie with that
famous actor
who gets chased by cops
through New York City side streets
                         running,
Running from incarceration
Only to commit another crime
the next day
which results in
more running.
You know the movie I'm talking about. Right?
The one where his girlfriend
tells him not to leave the house
but he does
And ends up getting shot,
Shot for the third time in his life,
Not the third bullet
But the third incident
Where was shot at
And the shooter didn't miss
Then he wakes up
Handcuffed to the hospital bed
only to find NYPD Detectives
towering over him
waiting for him to open his eyes
not to ask who shot him
but to read him his rights.

You know the movie I'm talking about.
It's about a young man
who had to grow up too fast
in a world that moved 10 times faster
than he could at that age,
But he thought he was grown
because he had grown responsibilities
and a girlfriend with morning sickness,
his right hand man on Rikers Island
For gun possession
2 close friends gunned down
in less than 2 months
while homocide police
are knocking at his Mama's door,
               " we just wanna ask
                 him some questions."
You all had to see this movie.
Well,
I have a confession to make.
I didn't watch the whole movie
Because I walked out.
I walked out because I know
what this movie was about
and who it was based on.
I know where it was going and
how the movie ends.
But, the end of the movie is not
the end of the story.
The story ends when I say it does.
This is my life,

THE TRUTH

I'm the truth,
which mean I'm the
opposite of falsehood.
The right over the wrong,
Blue sky over the storm,
Actual fact
So of course I'm all good.

I'm the light in the dark,
Some people search
and never find me.
While others see me
For what I am,
But they prefer
To hide me.

I destroy relationships
And put Fathers
Against Mothers,
Sons against daughters
and do the same with
sisters and brothers.

Sometimes I'll set you free,
At times you cry
When I'm revealed,
I can make you
sick to your stomach,
or I can be that which heals.

I'm always right
in front of your face
whether your looking
or not.
I've been mixed & diluted
argued & disputed
But I always come out on top!

I've reduced
grown men to babies,
I've had innocent
people vindicated,
I've had guilty
people incarcerated
and those who
were oppressed
I have liberated.

I've been blamed
For world wars,
I've been used
To incite violence,
I've been used
As a tool for
blackmail to keep
The outspoken in silence.

Fakes and lies
Fear me the most.
And for what I'm saying
There's proof.
If you don't believe
Just wait and see
Because I will always be
The truth!

INTRODUCTION TO ME

Is it possible for a man
to introduce himself to the world,
while giving enough information
to make people want to
get to know him better,
but at the same time
holding back enough to remain mysterious?
would you be intrigued?
What would you ask me?
would you ask about my
5 feet 11 inches, 185 pounds,
or my 35 years of age?
would you want to know
what inspires me
as a poet/artist, or would you
ask what kind of woman
I'd like to hear from,
and if race, height, weight, age,
and things of that nature make a difference?
In actuality, my goal is to be acknowledged for my creativity, and to end
the stereotypes of men behind bars. I believe that anyone who is willing
to give a non-judgmental ear, will find me to be a loyal, trustworthy and
honest individual. Men in prison have a bad reputation for running game, seeking
material gain, and looking to take advantage of women to satisfy their financial
situations. I like to think of myself as the exception. So, if you're looking to
conversate with a man who's mature, who is looking for a mature woman, you know
where to find me.
