By: Patrick Rathsack
I was adopted at the age of 5 and lived with that family for 8 years. They never accepted me and treated me harshly, so I left. When I ran away it shocked a lot of adults. I had been known as a good kid who sang in choirs and was active in both church and the community. I was hardworking and respectful.
As a runaway I traveled all over the country and learned to take care of myself in many situations. At 17 I tried to settle down, but did not fit in anywhere I lived. I got sober when I turned 19. I remained a member of the programs of A. A. and N.A. for 11 years. During that time I encountered many challenges. One of them was dealing with a mental illness. Eventually I quit the programs and drank again.
On Christmas Eve 1998 I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and began to learn to love, serve and obey Him.
In 2000 I was charged with crimes I did not commit. Most of the charges were dropped, however I had to fight the remaining ones in court. I was convicted of 2 felonies and was sentenced to 25 years to Life in prison. This sentence does not mean my life is over. I enjoy many blessings. I have hardships and challenges, but living through them strengthens my soul. I am active in the body of Christ, in school and in my environment.
Here are a few more facts about me. I am 43, White, not married, without children or family ties, 5'8" tall, 145 pounds, brown hair and eyes. I have studied music and Martial Arts and have some college experience. I have been an employment counselor and worked in public relations. I have done menial jobs including working as a day laborer. I have started several small businesses. At times I have been homeless. I do not have the space to make this description complete, but I hope it is enough to convince you to write. I love to write and receive mail. I look forward to hearing from you.
