Dear Readers,

My name is Timothy Eugene Mc Crary.  A/K/A Hammer.  I am a forty-two year old man, doing life.  Like many in my position, I lived a life as the modern Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde.  In other words, I fell victim to alcohol and drugs much too early in life.  On numerous occasions, my alter-ego (Mr. Hyde) would do things beyond my control.

In the end, I would find myself a victim to crimes beyond my recollection.

A crying shame, given the beautiful woman, children and family that loved me!

Nevertheless, here I am!  Free of drugs and alcohol - living the life of a conscious man.  The wisdom of time is on my side.  So, I guess you could say....I'm a wise man.

My birth sign is Aries;  I'm 6 ft and weigh 195 lbs.  I'm very athletic.  Now, I favor basketball, but had scholarships to play football.

I've had two poems published with the National Library of Poetry.  "Reasons" in the Soft Parade and "Elusive Dreams " in Outstanding Poets of '98.  My goal is to have my own book published.

I'm of African descent, with an uncanny knack to point out the many problems that plague our communities.  Which leaves to question, who will solve them?  For example:  It's my heartfelt opinion, that penal systems today are no more than hi tech plantations.  Surely, I am not the only person to see the irony in an Amendment that freed us as slaves - only to legalize it at the same time.

I've written a poem entitled, "Today's Lesson" and it "Hammers" that point home.  Anyone interested in a copy of poem and more, merely need to ask.  Until then...God Bless.

                               Timothy E. Mc Crary

                                                              by

Today's Lesson will be in english, but in my heart I
know it's foreign...
So, before I could prepare today's lesson, it's in my
Heart that I went explorin' -
And Since my soul continues to move me with echos
from an African's past...
The pain in my heart makes me wonder - how much
Longer can we last?
And of the many subjects I'd like to discuss, the
One that weighs most on my mind...
Is how prevalent the "N - Word" has become in America,
And it's acceptance by Africans of kind -
A term of endearment is what you claim, but I say
Have you no shame?
And that everytime you use it, you disrespect those from
whom which you came -
If an Asian is still an Asian, and a Jew is still a Jew
Then why isn't an African still an African, given all
That we've been through?
So, with an open mind, please lend me your ears and
your undivided attention...
And I'll tell you how the framers set the stage, for
Our present situation -
Slaves in time, of a different kind, who were
predescribed to be...
For in the 13th Amendment it clearly describes
The African's destiny -
It says, that "slavery shall exist in the United
States once you've been duly convicted of a crime..."
And since it supposedly gave Africans their freedom,
who do you think were in mind?
Our past is slowly becoming our present, that much,
I know to be true...
So, for those of you who don't have a clue, I
Implore you to heed today's lesson.
